CAN UNITED END THEIR AWAY DISASTER ??
Form: Wigan go into Saturday's match in 18th position in the Premier League, having had a poor run of form. Their last League game resulted in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, and before that they had a win and a draw to their name - against Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion respectively. Their last outing against United came in November - when they went down 2-0, with goals from Patrice Evra and Chicharito.

United will be looking to regain their hold on the Premier League title race, following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Stoke City - putting The Gunners just one point behind the leaders. The Reds last League game was the unforgettable 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the local derby. Before beating City at Old Trafford, United were upstaged by Wigan's fellow relegation struggles, Wolves... Let's hope The Reds put on a better show this time around !

The Injury Front: Wigan will be without promising United loanee, midfielder Tom Cleverley, due to contract conditions. Defender Emmerson Boyce is rated doubtful with a hamstring problem, while there is also uncertainty over Callum McManaman. Ali Al Habsi, Maynor Figueroa, Charles N'Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega are all set to return for The Lactics after being rested against Bolton Wanderers in The FA Cup.

Squad: Al Habsi, G Caldwell, Stam, Lopez, S Caldwell, Diame, Gomez, McCarthy, Thomas, McArthur, Di Santo, McManaman, Moses, Redmond, Mustoe, Golobart, Watson, Sammon, Alcaraz, Boyce, Cleverley, Gohouri, Pollitt, Kirkland.

United are set to welcome back Ryan Gigg sand Michael Owen following respective injuries - which ruled them out of The Red's 0-0 draw with Marseille on Wednesday. However, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Oliveira Anderson, and Ji-Sung Park remain out of action - with the four set to return in the coming weeks. Antonio Valencia is on-course for a return in mid-February, but Owen Hargreaves' future is still in doubt.

Squad: Van Der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, Vidic, O'Shea, Brown, Rafael, Fabio, Evra, Smalling, Scholes, Gibson, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Bébé, Obertan, Giggs, Tunnicliffe, Rooney, Owen, Berbatov, Hernandez, King

MANCHESTER UNITED IS IN MY BLOOD PREDICTION :-
MAN UTD 3 - 1 WIGAN .. !

Utd trio miss Marseille trip !

Manchester United will be without Anderson, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie against Marseille

The trio were among several absentees from the squad for the first leg of the last 16 tie when United flew out to the South of France.
Anderson's fitness is a major concern for United after the Brazilian midfielder was replaced at half-time in Saturday's FA Cup win over Crawley Town.
Reports have claimed that Anderson could be sidelined for the next two months, although United have yet to comment on the extent of the knee injury.
Ferdinand is yet to recover from a calf injury, so Chris Smalling will partner Nemanja Vidic in central defence as Jonny Evans has also not travelled.
Club stalwart Giggs, who signed a new one-year contract last week, has also been left behind by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson
Striker Michael Owen is missing due to a groin injury, while midfield duo Antonio Valncia
and Park Ji-sung are also absent.

Howerer. Ferguson was able to include Brazilian Brothers Rafael and Fabio despite the pair both coming off with injuries against Crawley, while youngsters King and Tunnicliffe were also selected along with Oberton and Bebe.

LAST TIME UNITED MET ARSENAL IN FA CUP, IT WAS MAN UTD 4 - 0 ARSENAL !

FA CUP ! MAN UNITED VS ARESENAL/LEYTON ORIENT

Manchester United are to play the winners of this afternoon's game between Leyton Orient and Arsenal - kicking off at 4:30pm - in The FA Cup 6th Round at Old Trafford after The Red Devils narrowly made it through to the next round following their 1-0 victory over non-league Crawley Town at home on Saturday evening...

NO DOUBT ! UNITED WERE NOT AT THEIR BEST

COULD HAVE MANAGED AN UPSET !

Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard accepted his side were below par against Crawley Town on Saturday.
United were expected to steamroll over an opposition that plays in the Blue Square Bet Premier division of the Football Conference, but just eked through via a solitary goal from Wes Brown to advance to the last-eight of the FA Cup.
Crawley were distinctly unlucky not to leave Old Trafford with at least a draw and Sir Alex Ferguson admitted as much in his post-match press conference. Lindegaard echoed his manager's views.
The goalkeeper, who joined United from Norwegian club Aalesund, told MUTV: "Crawley did a great job.
"It's a cup match and I've heard from the manager in the last few days that in the FA Cup anything can happen. This match was evidence of that. With a bit more luck, Crawley could have scored.
"In an FA Cup match with the score at 1-0, the end of the game is bound to be hectic. But we dealt with it and we are happy with the win, even though it wasn't pretty. We just have to forget this match and move on.
"We didn't do well and we should get the level much higher for the rest of the season. This wasn't good enough."
The Dane however, seemed to be satisfied with his own performance on his Old Trafford debut.
"It felt very good," he said.
"You ask yourself how you will do, and I felt good. I felt confident. I felt I was in the right mindset. So it was a good experience. It was the same against Southampton, it's a big match.
"It may be against a lower division team but it gives you a taste for more. I'm not here to pick my nose. I'm here because I want to play."
Lindegaard might well get more chances next season given that incumbent Edwin van der Sar has announced his intention to retire at the end of the season.
However, given the number of keepers United have been linked with - including Schalke's Manuel Neuer and Atletico Madrid's David da Gea - Lindegaard might well face stiff competition for the top job.

OWEN INJURED AGAIN =/

Michael Owen, one of the most injury ravaged striker, is set to spend more time on the sidelines as he deteriorates his groin in a training session on Monday (Source: The Sun)

The out-of-favour English international has been sent for scans to learn the extent of the injury, but he is almost certain to miss the interesting FA cup clash with Crawley town which he was expected to play partnered with Chicharito. I must say, Owen has some real bad luck!

Owen has already missed so many games this season due to a hamstring injury and this injury will definitely blow his chances for a new contract with United.

The 31-year old missed the remainder of the season after the Carling Cup final against Villa in February soon after scoring the first goal of the game which was later equalised by Abgonlahor. Eventually, Wayne Rooney won it for United with a brilliant headed goal to end the game 2-1. February and FA Cup are bad omens for Michael, it seems!
However Chicharito, will be given more chances in his absence.

Scholes: Stand up and be counted !!!!

Paul Scholes views the resumption of the Champions League as the beginning of the end for Manchester United this season.
Although United are not in action this week, the resumption of hostilities across Europe, including Wednesday's mouthwatering clash between Arsenal and Barcelona at the Emirates Stadium, marks the emergence from the depths of winter.
And for Scholes, it is also the start of a run-in to what he hopes will be a glorious end to the season.
"It's the sign for the run-in," said the veteran midfielder.
"It just kind of happens without you knowing it. You know there are 12 games left in the league, the FA Cup is getting down to the latter stages and Europe is starting again.
"Every game becomes more important. It is the time to stand up and start playing."
United could not have made a better start, securing a derby-day victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford.
As that result - and Chelsea's failure to overcome Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday - have virtually turned the title race into a straight fight between United and Arsenal, the Red Devils could do with Arsene Wenger's men coming out on top in north London this evening.
On the basis that the more matches Arsenal have to play, the less likely they are able to eat into United's four-point advantage at the top of the table, it will presumably be the same on Sunday, when the Gunners make a short journey to Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.
However, Scholes only has eyes for non-league Crawley, and then Didier Deschamps' Marseille, who stand between United and a place in the quarter-finals, where they lost in agonising fashion to Bayern Munich last season.
"Marseille won't be easy," he said.
"It's a tough place. We played there before quite a few years ago and got beaten.
"But we are looking forward to it. Hopefully it is the start of a good end to the season for us and we can go all the way to the final again and win it."

ROONEY SURELY BETTER THAN PELE :)

The plaudits are coming in for Wayne Rooney after his wonder strike during Manchester United's 2-1 win over Manchester City.
According to former Ipswich, Liverpool and Scotland star John Wark, the England star's goal was better than a strike he had seen Pele make before.
The 53-year old had starred in the 1982 film, Escape to Victory, and compared the two goals.
In quotes referenced by the Sun, Wark said: "When I saw Rooney's goal, it reminded me straight away of what Pele did in the film.
"I remember that scene well. The director asked Bobby Moore to cross the ball from the right and told Pele 'We need something spectacular from you'.
"Bobby chipped it in and Pele took off and sent a sensational overhead kick flying into the net. One take and it was over.
"But you have to remember the circumstances and pressure were different.
"Rooney was playing in a Manchester derby before an Old Trafford full house.
"Pele was facing defenders played by actors."
Wark, a Scot, scored 7 goals in 29 goals for his country.

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov: I want to win 19th league title for Sir Alex Ferguson

Bulgarian aiming to score another 20 goals by the end of the season

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has declared that he wants to win what would be the club's 19th title for manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Winning the 19th league title is very important at Manchester United," he told FourFourTwo.

"I'd love to do that for the manager, who's been here almost 25 years, as well as my team-mates and the fans."

The Bulgarian, who has 19 league goals so far this season, sat out most of Saturday's Manchester derby, but is still delighted with the way this season is going on a personal level, as well as for the club.

"Everything's going well for me this season and if we can win the title it will be even better," he added.

"That's my main wish. If, in May, we've won the title and I'm there to lift it, then it would

be a personal best for me."

The former Tottenham man claimed that, if United do well in all competitions, he is looking to double his goal tally by the end of the season.

He said: "We still have a lot of games left in the league, as well as matches in the FA Cup and the Champions League.

"We want to reach the final in both those competitions, so that gives me plenty of time.

"My ambitions have always been high, so I'll try and score another 20 by the end."

Ronaldo Best Solist ever

RONALDO !! A STAR FOREVER ;) LEGEND :)

Ronaldo retires at age of 34

Legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo has decided to call time on what has been an illustrious and unforgettable career.
The 34-year-old, currently playing for Corinthians, has been planning to hang up his boots for some time and is set to officially announce his retirement on Monday.
Citing injury and fitness concerns as the main reasons for his decision, he told Fantastico online magazine: "My body aches. In my head I want to continue, but this body can't take much more.
"In recent days I have cried like a baby."
Ronaldo has been one of the most celebrated footballers in his generation, having won three World Player of the Year awards, two World Cups with Brazil and is the competition's all-time leading goalscorer with 15 goals in four tournament appearances.
While he has experience many highs during his career, there were also some low moments too.
The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan player has been plagued with a number of serious knee injuries throughout his career and was often criticized for being overweight.
But the lowest moment for Ronaldo was in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where he suffered a convulsive fit the night before the final against France but insisted on playing despite being taken off from the starting line-up 72 minutes before the match by then coach Mario Zagallo.
He performed badly as Brazil went on to lose 3-0.
Nonetheless, he will be remembered as one of the greatest strikers of all time.
He will formally end his career at a press conference at Corinthians headquarters at 12:40pm local time (15:40 CET, 14:40 BST, 09:40 EST.)

MATCH REPORT ! MAN UTD VS MAN SHITTY ! ;)

Wayne Rooney sent out an emphatic reminder of his abilities when his sensational bicycle kick granted all three points to Manchester United in their battle with Manchester City.
Nani gave the hosts the lead when he slotted past Joe Hart after excellent composure when being put through on goal, only for David Silva to unwittingly equalize when Edin Dzeko’s shot went in off the Spaniard.
The decisive moment of the game came when a deflected cross dropped to Rooney just inside the box and his acrobatic overhead kick and was sent flying into Hart’s top corner in a moment that will be forever remembered in Manchester United folklore.
The result sees the Manchester clubs sandwich second-placed Arsenal and though City are eight points behind their cross-city rivals having played a game more, they remain primed for an assault on Champions League qualification.
Fresh from his midweek heroics for Spain, Silva provided the game’s first spark of inspiration. The mercurial wideman picked up the ball on the right flank and knocked it inside to Yaya Toure. Silva then ghosted inside and some smart interchange between Toure and Tevez saw the ball slotted into the path of Silva’s third man run. As he bore down on Edwin van der Sar’s goal, the Spaniard could only toe poke the goal agonizingly wide of the far post.
As the hosts failed to capitalize on a succession of corner kicks, the game swung end to end in a manner that belied the defensive-minded 4-5-1 formations both teams were set up in. City had the more promising of the game’s early possession but Nani issued a reminder of his goal threat when he jinked in from the right, in the way that is quickly becoming his trademark, and blazed over from around 25 yards.
City continued to show more innovative use of the ball in their build up play, with Silva the chief architect. He again unlocked the hosts’ defense, which clearly missed the marshaling skills of Rio Ferdinand, with a reverse pass, though Toure could only rifle his cross into the chest of Chris Smalling.
With both teams’ front men largely anonymous in the opening exchanges, Rooney cut a particularly frustrated figure. The lone striker became embroiled in an ongoing petty altercation with Vincent Kompany after the towering center-half was shown a yellow card for coming through the back of his opponent. Over the next five minutes, words were said and handbags were raised, with the impressive Andre Marriner, who had allowed the game to maintain its flow with a few well-judged advantages, having to tell both to drop it.
Genuine penetration was few and far between as both teams seemed content to keep the ball and not put too much on the line. When Ryan Giggs found himself in good space on the left, his ball into the far post was met by the onrushing Darren Fletcher who could only send his header comfortably into the welcoming arms of Joe Hart.
This acted as a catalyst for Manchester United eking out a marginal stranglehold on the game, without really ever breaching the opposition back four. Hart made another easy save when a promising Nani strike from distance was diverted into exactly where the goalkeeper was standing and then from the other flank, Nani fired over from similar range.
Nani made no mistake, though, when he was presented with the hosts’ first clear-cut chance of the game, five minutes before half-time. For all their bluster, it was route one football that granted United the lead. A long Van Der Sar kick was knocked onto Giggs after Rooney challenged in the air and his excellent first time pass matched the exact stride pattern of Nani as he ran beyond the shoulder of Lescott. The winger then showed great composure to bring the ball down under pressure and sidefoot it past Hart to wheel away and celebrate with his usual acrobatics.
The hosts finished the first half firmly in the ascendancy having visibly rattled their rivals’ cage.
City began the second half with the same probing inquisition with which they started the first. Toure’s heavy touch in the box prompted the rangy midfielder to throw himself to the ground in search of a penalty though Marriner pointedly dismissed his appeal.
The visitors shortly brought on Shaun Wright-Phillips for makeshift left-winger Aleksander Kolarov and he almost spontaneously made his presence felt but slipped on queue when Tevez’s ball had looked to have slid him through.
Kompany went from the sublime to the ridiculous in the space of ten seconds after his wonderfully timed challenge on Rooney in the box looked to have quelled a United counter-attack. However, upon resuming his move forward the Belgian gifted the ball to Nani on the edge of the area, who could only drag wide with his left foot.
As he looked to get back into the game Mancini sent on Dzeko to partner the ineffectual Tevez at the expense of James Milner. This strategy soon proved a stroke of genius. A surging Wright-Phillips run down the right saw him whip the ball in and Dzeko’s strike went past the helpless van der Sar via Silva’s backside to snatch an equalizer.
Clearly not content with a draw Sir Alex Ferguson sent on his ace card, the 19-goal Dimitar Berbatov, matching the 4-4-2 adopted by City. This did little to deter the visitors who grew in confidence with their goal and consequently pushed forward with renewed vigor.
Nani continued to look the most animated player on the pitch when he picked the ball up in his own half after Rooney was clattered, waltzed past three City defenders with some smart step-overs and fizzed a left footed shot just wide of the upright.
In a moment that seemed fitting in a game of such magnitude Wayne Rooney put the hosts back in front. Nani’s cross from the right took a nick off Pablo Zabaleta which looked to have rendered it fruitless. Rooney, however, adapted his shape and sprung into the air to dispatch a truly spectacular bicycle kick into Joe Hart’s top corner.
City searched in vain for another equalizer but it proved not to be their day as United held out to seal a famous and title-defining victory.

GOAL OF THE SEASON !!

GOAL OF THE SEASON !!

ROOONEYS WONDER GOAL BRING HIM AND UNITED BACK ON TRACK !! ;)

Wayne Rooney proved the old adage that form is temporary and class is permanent as he scored a sensational overhead kick to give Manchester United the derby-day spoils at Old Trafford.
For over 10 months now, there have been major question marks over United's talisman.
Even following England's victory over Denmark in midweek, Fabio Capello was quizzed about whether he would consider dropping the 25-year-old, who had scored five goals all season for United prior to today.
How can that be contemplated? How can what Rooney achieved here be ignored? How many players could watch Nani's floated 77th-minute cross, then leap to send the ball flying past Joe Hart, the City goalkeeper rooted to the spot, lost in admiration for a goal that sent United eight points clear of their local rivals.
It was tough luck on City, who were the better side, and responded to Nani's opener by levelling through an Edin Dzeko shot which deflected in off David Silva.
But Rooney's moment of genius was worthy of winning any game, and with City surely out of the running now, maybe it will win United the Premier League title too.
Attempts from both sides to avoid inflaming what was always going to be a volatile atmosphere, even before City's startling rise up the Premier League, were breached only by a member of the Blues groundstaff, who used a social networking site to post some pretty ugly comments and also the stadium announcer, who repeatedly welcomed supporters to the "greatest football club in the world".
A goalless meeting between the sides in November had prompted complaints of negativity towards Blues boss Roberto Mancini, a feeling a similarly tepid encounter with Arsenal last month only reinforced.
Faced with a table that showed his team five points in arrears of their neighbours, having played a game more, this was the point of no return for City though - and Mancini went for it.
City should have been ahead after only three minutes.
Silva started an intricate move that also involved Micah Richards before Carlos Tevez threaded a brilliant pass through to the Spain international, leaving him completely clear deep inside the penalty area.
Edwin van der Sar advanced quickly, forcing Silva to make an instant decision, the former Valencia star turning in anguish as his delicate prod rolled just wide of the far post.
Even at that early stage, Mancini must have wondered whether another such opportunity would come.
Yaya Toure and Aleksandar Kolarov both went close as the visitors continued to press. But City could not get a clear sight of the United goal.
Not that their hosts were doing much in return.
It took them almost 35 minutes to force Hart into a meaningful save, Darren Fletcher climbing to reach Ryan Giggs' curling cross and though the Scot's header was firm enough, it lacked power.
Nani had been a peripheral figure up to that point. He did serve notice of his intentions shortly afterwards though as he fired over from the edge of the area.
Having done so well, City would have been cursing at the manner in which they were opened up.
One long ball from Van der Sar, which Rooney flicked on to Giggs. A neat pass from the Welshman and Nani was in, his first touch taking him away from Pablo Zabaleta before he steadied himself, then beat Hart with clinical ease.
City must have spent the interval cursing at the injustice of it all.
They were the ones who continued to press after the restart, although it was not until Mancini had called Shaun Wright-Phillips and Dzeko off the bench that they got their equaliser.
Even Mancini would admit it took his side a huge slice of luck to drag themselves back into it, with the substitutes combining at the start.
Dzeko's shot from Wright-Phillips' cross was going well wide of the goal when it struck Silva on the back, the deflection leaving Van der Sar totally helpless.
It looked like City would grab a winner, with Dzeko causing huge problems inside the United area.
But the inspirational figure was wearing red. For so long now, there have been questions about Rooney's form.
There can be none now, not after he met Nani's cross with a jaw-dropping overhead kick that sent the ball into the far corner, Hart rooted to the spot.

Manchester United Football Club is an English Premier League football club which plays at Old Trafford in Greater Manchester. The club was formed as Newton Heath in 1878, joined the Football League in 1892 and has played in the top division of English football since 1938 with the exception of the 1974–75 season. Average attendances at the club have been higher than any other team in English football for all but six seasons since 1964–65.

Manchester United are the reigning English champions, having won the 2008–09 Premier League. The club is one of the most successful in the history of English football and has won 22 major honours since Alex Ferguson became manager in November 1986. In 1968, they became the first English club to win the European Cup, beating Benfica 4–1. They won a second European Cup as part of a Treble in 1999, and a third in 2008, before finishing runner-up in 2009. The club holds the joint record for the most English league titles with 18 and also holds the record for the most FA Cup wins with 11.

Since the late 1990s, the club has been one of the richest in the world with the highest revenue of any football club, and is currently ranked as the richest and most valuable club in any sport worldwide, with an estimated value of around £1.136 billion (€1.319 billion / $1.870 billion) as of April 2009.  Manchester United was a founding member of the now defunct G-14 group of Europe's leading football clubs, and its replacement, the European Club Association.

Alex Ferguson has been manager of the club since 6 November 1986, joining from Aberdeen after the departure of Ron Atkinson. The current club captain is Gary Neville, who succeeded Roy Keane in November 2005.
